In circular fashion institutions like governments, religions. and the media themselves tell us what we think. In other words, they take our place in stating what we think and convince some of us that their version, not ours, is what we really think and feel about issues, institutions, or anything else.. If news media, for example, tell us that we think with increasing negativity about the value of specific governments or religions, then some of us may be swayed to agree with them, even if we don’t really agree with the degree of negativity that they postulate. If we are critical about governments or religions, let us be the ones who decide, not the institutions themselves. Otherwise, negativity can implode or become a whirlpool. Jeopardizing critical thought, this negativity functions like self-indoctrination and propaganda.
